Requirements for the Energy Efficiency Performance of Doors and Windows in Green Building Standards
2026-02-10
An in-depth analysis of domestic and international green-building certification standards reveals that the requirements for the energy-efficiency performance of windows and doors are becoming increasingly stringent and detailed. Take LEED certification as an example: it not only mandates superior thermal insulation to effectively prevent heat transfer between indoors and outdoors, but also emphasizes high air-tightness design to minimize energy losses due to air infiltration while enhancing indoor comfort. Similarly, China’s Green Building Labeling System places great emphasis on the energy-saving performance of windows and doors, setting specific quantitative targets such as thermal transmittance and solar shading coefficient to guide the industry toward greater energy efficiency. In response to these requirements, window and door manufacturers must align their product development closely with the core criteria of these standards by adopting innovative thermal-insulation materials, optimizing seal designs, and improving manufacturing precision to ensure that all performance metrics are met. In addition, they should explore the application of smart technologies—such as integrated intelligent shading systems and environment-sensing opening mechanisms—to further enhance energy efficiency and user experience. Through continuous innovation and practical implementation, the window and door industry can not only satisfy the demands of green-building certifications but also play a pivotal role in advancing energy conservation and emission reduction in the building sector and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
